The Leprosy Mission's CRPD Conference Side Event 2024
Side event title:
Promoting the rights of persons with disabilities to decent work and sustainable livelihood: lessons from the front line and what this means for states, the UN and civil society
Introduction
UN ESCWA, The Leprosy Mission, and the Permanent Mission of Malta to the UN invite you to attend a side event on: The right to work and employment for persons with disabilities in Low and Middle Income Countries: lessons from the front line and what this means for states, the UN and civil society.
What we will discuss
This COSP17 side event seeks to provide insights from those working on the front lines of employment rights for persons with disabilities. We will learn about the practical challenges that persons with disabilities face in accessing livelihoods in Low and Middle Income Countries (LMICs) from the people living and working within those countries.
We will aim to translate these lessons into practical steps for governments and civil society organisations in LMICs. We hope these lessons and practical steps will provide a greater understanding of how we can ensure the rights to work and employment that are enshrined within the CRPD.
