Mr. Marekegn Habtamu (BSc, MSc, MPH)
Research Coordinator at The Leprosy Mission International Ethiopia (TLMIE).

Marekegn holds a Master of Public Health (MPH) in Epidemiology from St. Paulos Millennium Medical College, Master of Science in Community Nutrition and Bachelor of Science in Public health, both from Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia.
Before joining to The Leprosy Mission International Ethiopia, Marekegn worked as academic staff in the university and was a private consultant for development partners.
He has contributed to numerous academic, implementation, and evaluation studies in collaboration with private consultants and university professors. Marekegn led an evaluation funded by UNICEF Ethiopia, assessed index case testing for continuous quality improvement of HIV testing with ICAP Ethiopia, and served as a Social and Behavioural Change trainer of trainers (TOT) on neglected tropical diseases for community leaders with World Vision Ethiopia.
In June 2024, he joined The Leprosy Mission International Ethiopia (TLMIE) as a Research Coordinator for a randomised controlled trial (RCT) evaluating the Traumatic Stress Relief (TSR) intervention among individuals with lived experience of leprosy. The study aims to assess the effectiveness and feasibility of the intervention for people affected by leprosy.
In addition to this ongoing project, TLMIE received another research grant from the Leprosy Research Initiative (LRI) to conduct a mixed-methods study on the social determinants of health among people affected by leprosy in Ethiopia.
Habtamu is part of the in-country investigative team for both research projects.
