The Leprosy Mission International welcomes new International Director

On Tuesday 6 October 2026, Mr Pete Garratt started as the International Director of The Leprosy Mission, the world’s oldest and largest leprosy-focused organisation.

Pete brings nearly 30 years of experience serving in a programmes and operational leadership positions across a variety of faith and non-faith based internationally focused organisations, including the British Red Cross, CAFOD, and Street Child. Prior to this, he started his career in the financial services private sector. He is previously known to The Leprosy Mission through six years as Head of Operations Support and has most recently been the Director of Global Programmes at Hope and Homes for Children.

Pete is taking on this role following the retirement of Mr Brent Morgan, who has served The Leprosy Mission for nearly two decades at both The Leprosy Mission International and The Leprosy Mission New Zealand. Among Brent’s achievements is The Leprosy Mission’s 2025-2030 Global Strategy, which Pete will now take forward and implement as International Director.

Fiona Davidson, Chair of The Leprosy Mission, who has led the Board’s search for the new International Director, commented,

“In the appointment of Pete, we have chosen someone with both the heart and leadership qualities to take TLM on the next stage of its 150-year-old journey. Pete is someone with the vision to grow TLM in the season to come, beyond its current sphere of influence and activity, and into a very bright future. I would also like to extend my thanks to Brent Morgan, whose compassionate and dedicated leadership has left The Leprosy Mission in an excellent position to achieve our vision of leprosy defeated and lives transformed. On behalf of the Board, I can say we are very hopeful for the future.”

On his appointment, Pete Garratt said,

“I am deeply honoured and humbled by the trust placed in me to return to lead The Leprosy Mission International. Our calling to serve those affected by leprosy with the love of Christ and to see Leprosy Defeated and Lives Transformed is as important as ever. I feel the passion and commitment that everyone connected with this cause carries with them, and I am pleased to stand on the shoulders of so many giants of faith from our 150-year history of excellence and achievement. I am looking forward to the adventures and good works that we are called to journey in as we press on together. Throughout it all, it is important to me that we will continue to champion the lived experience voices of those affected by leprosy and to encourage resilient and strong local leadership."
