The World Health Organization estimates that 8-10% of the population of 830,000 of Timor Leste have disabilities.

TLM has supported leprosy control work and Prevention of Disabilities since 1991 working alongside government health staff and other NGOs.

ASSERT

TLM supports ASSERT, a rehabilitation centre which provides prosthetics and protective footwear. The physical rehabilitation programme focuses on disability and providing mobility aids. Other elements of the project include:

Poverty reduction through income-generation

Training prosthetists, orthotists, technicians, physiotherapists and Community-Based Rehabilitation workers


Through all these activities, people become mobile and are able to participate in their communities.
