TLM works alongside HANDA, a local NGO of people affected by leprosy working in the Guangdong and Guangxi provinces in south and southwest China.

HANDA works to promote dignity and respect amongst those affected by leprosy, to advocate for equal rights, and to improve public understanding of the disease.

Through support networks, meetings, publications, newsletters and practical skill building, HANDA aims to empower and encourage people with leprosy to live economically independent lives and to regain their dignity.

One of the projects is quilt making. After a 3 month sewing course, leprosy affected women work at a textile crafts workshop in Quangzhou, making a variety of quilt products – from wall tidies to backpacks. TLM Trading is one of HANDA’s major clients for this project.

TLM also works alongside other NGOs in Honghe province – through initiatives that combat local stigma and bring financial assistance, as well as sponsoring children from leprosy affected families to attend school. Other project activities include

self-care training – from health care workers to people affected by leprosy,
